Today’s premiere New Adult authors combine their talents to tell four original stories from inside one house.
When four girls decide to live off campus together as juniors at a college in Michigan, they expect it to be their best year yet. Little do they know, it’s a year that will change the rest of their lives.
BEHIND HER EYES by A.L. Jackson
Unable to live down her ex-boyfriend’s deception, Misha is determined to avoid betrayal. When, the new guy next door, Darryn starts to get under her skin, her defenses start to crumble. But trusting Darryn seems impossible, especially if he’s not sure he can trust himself.
SAVING ME by Molly McAdams
On the outside, Indy is always ready for a party—but inside she’s breaking. Kier makes a weekly routine of saving the girl next door from herself on Saturday nights… but when will she be ready to remember him on Sunday morning?
FOULING OUT by Tiffany King
Working at a sports bar, Courtney has become a pro at sidestepping propositions from arrogant jocks—which makes her a more elusive catch for campus basketball star Dalton than he expected. But when he falls for the saucy waitress, Dalton will have to rethink his game plan to prove he’s not the jerk Courtney expects.
BENEATH YOUR LAYERS by Christina Lee
In order to ace her fashion internship, Chloe must team up with local college dropout and set builder, Blake—much to her chagrin. But after some "hands-on" experience, Chloe will have to ask herself if Blake factors into her carefully laid plans…
In this NA anthology, four awesome authors came together to write love stories about a group of friends who live in a house, and the crush-worthy guys they fall in love with. A.L. Jackson, Molly McAdams, Tiffany King, and Christina Lee each have their own style, and each delivered uniquely entertaining stories that seamlessly meshed into one enjoyable novel.
Behind Her Eyes
A. L. Jackson is the queen of poetic writing and emotional angst, and in this short story she delivers depth and feeling that allows you to fall for these characters fast. Misha is recovering from the gross betrayal of her ex-boyfriend. Darryn, her hot neighbor, is determined to show her that not all guys are douche bags. He likes to fix broken cars, and he has a soft spot for the heartbroken girl next door. Unfortunately, he’s harboring a secret that could cost him, a hidden truth that could reverse all the trust he’s built with Misha. I enjoyed reading this story, and seeing a different side to this author. I’ve read her work before, and I’m used to her characters’ deep internal musings, and it was nice to experience a story that quickly develops, but still has the emotional thread that I’m used to from A. L. Jackson.
This was my favorite story in the anthology. It was also my first Molly McAdams read, and I’m definitely going to read some more of her work. This story was about a girl who parties to forget, and the boy next door who saves her each night, knowing she won’t remember him in the morning. I loved Indy and Kier. Not just because they had awesome names, but because they were just cool characters. The chemistry between them was sizzling, and once I got to know them and their story, I couldn’t help identifying with them. I wish this story was a full length novel because I didn’t want it to end! The author’s writing style was easy to read, and humorous. There were moments when I felt my heart crack, and other moment when I was snorting from laughing. I definitely enjoyed Saving Me.
This was a cute love story about old friends and new lovers. Courtney is a waitress, and Dalton is the hottest, most loved guy on campus. She dreams of working in an art studio, and he’s on course to be the top pick in the NBA draft. They have nothing in common except their shared past. With Courtney holding a decade’s long grudge against Dalton, he has his work cut out for him if he wants her to give him a chance. I loved the wit and quick repartee between these two; their chemistry was hot, hot, hot. This was my first time reading Tiffany King, and I liked her style. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with these two as much as I connected with Indy and Kier, but then they were a tough act to follow!
Behind Your Layers
Chloe has dreams of making it big in the fashion world. Blake is a dropout who she needs in order to pass her fashion internship. Chloe has plenty of opinions about who Blake is, and she doesn’t trust that he’ll be able to deliver. Blake thinks Chloe is a stuck-up priss who doesn’t have a clue. Through games of truth or dare, these two learn that the other isn’t who they think they are. Christina Lee delivers a great NA short story with plenty of steam. I loved getting to watch these characters reveal pieces of themselves, and seeing that they aren’t so different after all, in fact that they complement each other.
All in all, I liked this anthology. I liked that the whole book was about a group of friends, and it was fun getting to see characters from the previous stories as I continued with each new couple. I wouldn’t have minded if each story was a bit longer, but then, I like reading tomes, and that might not be your thing. If you love NA, and sweet romances then this is definitely the book for you. Enjoy!
