At first glance you might think this could be just another shallow, thinly developed new(ish) adult sports romance. However it is quite easy to refute those thoughts when you’re up past your usual bedtime by three hours and cursing the 6am alarm because you can’t stop/won’t stop reading. The Hot Shot features characters that you’ll undeniably fall in love with, dialogue that is entertaining and witty and writing that is simply a pleasure to read. Review: The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan
There are a host of different reasons why I don't read new adult. My largest complaints are that the storylines are formulaic or predictable, the ratio of sex:emotion is way off balance or the character’s behaviors and motives are not reflective of their intended age. They're cheesy. They're cliché. Blah blah blah. Whatever the case may be, they are not the type of reads I seek out because I've always felt disappointed by them. Kristen Callihan brings her A game with The Friend Zone! I loved this steamy romance from start to finish. I marked three books as DNF this week.
