Head of the class...
Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.
The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and "cool" teacher in the hometown where he's not just a golden boy—he's platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.
Then...Callie Carpenter comes home.
And knocks him right on his tight end zone.
Back to school...
Callie has a pretty sweet life herself...on the other side of the country. But circumstances—that she'd prefer to never speak of again—have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.
Now she's facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore...and that's just the teachers.
Just like old times...
When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance—and then has to stop herself from jumping him.
Good friends are all they can ever be.
Or...these teachers just might end up getting schooled—hard—by love.
When I want a lighthearted, no-fuss, romantic comedy Emma Chase is my go-to. This small town, second chance romance hit all those marks and Getting Schooled is another Emma Chase romance I have been charmed by.
There were many things I loved about this book, the small town setting for one. It is so easy to pick up a romance and the hero is an alpha billionaire who fled is hometown because, reasons. It was refreshing to have a high school history teacher who lives and teaches in his hometown cast as the main man. Garret was really lovable and sexy, a combination Emma Chase writes so well. Plus, I’m from NJ and I’ve got a soft spot for stories featured in my home state. I also enjoyed the second chance romance between Garrett and Callie. There is a string that ties these two characters together so tightly and the sacrifices they made for one another in the past are realistic, but I have to say I did kind of figure the what had happened between them all those years ago. I thought it was subtly hinted at throughout the story and I appreciated the characters having some sort of closure on the issues so many years later (not mooning over it on every other page), but it’s pretty predicable for this trope.
I did even cry while reading this one, and over a secondary character no less! I was so heartbroken for Garrett and Callie. It was very subtle, the way Emma wove this character into the story (and my heart), so when this crying moment came the tears could not be restrained. Have you read it? Or listened? Did you cry too?
This title was first published as an audiobook. I usually reserve audio’s for re-reads, but after checking out the narrator listing I’m hesitant. Not because they aren’t fantastic narrators but I feel as though another narrator fits the characters a bit better. Callie especially. If my library picks up a copy I might try it. How’s the audio? Should I give it a go?
I’d say this romance is great for anyone looking for something really sexy, flirty and fun. I recommend!
